Job of the Month - Clarifier Trough for City of Miramar, Florida
Easier to Maintain and Safer for Workers – that was the City of Miramar’s reasons for choosing Enviroline® 230 NSF to re-coat their clarifier, one of several projects for the City where Enviroline coatings and linings have been used.
Algae growth is typical in a wet, warm and sunny environment like a clarifier trough in Florida. However, the algae that was growing in the City of Miramar’s clarifier trough was excessive and persistent, creating a dangerously slick surface for workers and a maintenance problem for the City to clean. So, the city searched for a coating that would inhibit algae growth, be easier to clean, have NSF approval, and provide excellent chemical and abrasion resistance. What they found was Enviroline 230 NSF.
Professional Tank Cleaning from Wilton Manors, Florida pressure washed and sandblasted the trough, then applied a thin coat of Enviroline 50 Moisture Resistant Coating to seal the concrete. Enviroline 230 NSF Potable Water Lining was then spray applied in a single coat to 30-40 mils. The job was completed within 24 hours of the initial cleaning. The City of Miramar has been extremely pleased with the job, and the smooth coating surface has been significantly easier to pressure wash clean. The City will be using Enviroline 230 NSF on several other projects, including a new clarifier to be constructed in 2009.
Enviroline 230 NSF is an ultra low VOCs internal lining for steel and concrete potable water storage tanks and pipes, providing excellent adhesion as well as abrasion and impact resistance. This epoxy coating, applied is a single thick-film coat that cures quickly, usually within 24 hours, is certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 61 for direct potable water contact, including commercial hot water up to 180°F (82°C) in 500 gallon tanks or larger and 10 inch diameter pipes or larger. Enviroline 230 NSF also meets AWWA Standard C210-03 performance requirements.
